Active Directory Recycle Bin In windows server 2008 r2

Active Directory Recycle Bin by using Ldp.exe

Ldp is a GUI base tool. We can connect, bind, modify, add, delete and compare any LDAP compatible directory like Active directory.

My server name is “host1” and domain name is “xyz.com”.

Before install Active Directory Recycle Bin we must need to raise forest functional level to Windows Server 2008 R2.

Step 1

Raising forest functional level

Go to START button then Administrative Tools then click Active Directory Domains and Trusts.

On Active Directory Domains and Trusts dialog box right click on Active Directory Domains and Trusts [host1.xyz.com] (Here host1.xyz.com is my own AD server and domain.) click Raise Forest Functional Level then raise forest functional level to Windows Server 2008 R2.

Step 2

Run Ldp.exe and Bind with domain.

We can run Ldp in two ways.

  1. Go to Server Manager expand Roles expand Active Directory Domain Services then scroll to Advance Tools box then click Ldp.exe.
  2. Go to START button click on Run and write Ldp.exe.

 After start Ldp dialog box go to Connection menu then click Connect.

In Connect dialog box write the server name (I give here “host1”) then OK.

After that go to Connection menu then click Bind and on the Bind dialog box click OK.

Step 3

In Ldp dialog box click on View menu then click on Tree.

In Tree View dialog box BaseDN dropdown menu select domain name (here “DC=xyz,DC=com”) then click OK.

Step 4

Expand DC=xyz,DC=com right click on CN=Builtin,DC=xyz,DC=com then click Modify.

In Modify dialog box clear DN box.

Go to Attribute box write EnableOptionalFeature then in the Values box write CN=Partitions,CN=Configuration,DC=xyz,DC=com:766ddcd8-acd0-445e-f3b9-a7f9b6744f2a then in operation box click on Add radio button and click Enter.

Now click on Run

After do this work Active Directory Recycle Bin install completed.

Expand DC=xyz,DC=com again we see that a new line added DC=Deleted Objects,DC=xyz,DC=com.

Now I delete a user account from “users” folder.

Now I restore the user from recycle bin.

 

Go to START button click on Run and write Ldp.exe.

After start Ldp dialog box go to Connection menu then click Connect.

In Connect dialog box write the server name (I give here “host1”) then OK.

Go to Connection menu then click Bind and on the Bind dialog box click OK.

In Ldp dialog box click on View menu then click on Tree.

In Tree View dialog box BaseDN dropdown menu select domain name (here “DC=xyz,DC=com”) then click OK.

Expand DC=xyz,DC=com right click on DC=Deleted Objects,DC=xyz,DC=com and click Modify.

In Modify dialog box Attribute box write isDeleted and Values is blank.

In Operation box click on Delete radio button and click on Enter button.

After that write distinguishedName in the Attribute box in the Values box write CN=mithundey,CN=users,DC=xyz,DC=com (here mithundey is user name and users is the folder name)

In Operation box click Replace radio button and click Enter.

Click on Extended box and click Run then click on Close.

The User restores.
